Peringanadu Trichenda Mangalam Mahadeva Temple is located in
Pathanamthitta District in Kerala and is around 4 km from Adoor. The temple
utsavam or annual festival is observed in Malayalam Kumbham month. The main highlight
of the festival is the kettukala. The festival begins the day after Mahashivratri day.
The famous Jett Ulsavam or Kettukazhcha is observed in the
evening. In the ritual, tall, colorful effigies of bulls (symbolically
representing Nandi, the vehicle of Shiva) arrive at the shrine.
The annual festival is noted for various rituals and
offerings.
Thousands of people arrive on the day to witness various
rituals and festivities.
Traditional performing arts, music and dance are staged
during the period. Caparisoned elephants, fireworks and melam are the other highlights
of the annual festival.
The temple is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut
leaves, flowers, leaves, traditional lamps and lights.
The festival ends with arattu.
