Ratnavali was the daughter of Dinbandhu Pathak. Tulsidas
loved Ratnavali immensely. He was so enamored by her beauty that he could not
stay away from her even for a day. Ratnavali had once gone to her house for a
day. Tulsidas could not tolerate the one day separation and he crossed a raging
river to go and meet her in her house. She did not like her husband’s behavior and
was shocked to see him at her house.
Ratnavali rebuked him for such attachment to her. In anger
she told him that he would have attained salvation or moksha by now had he shown
same attachment to Bhagavan Sri Ram.
Stung by her words, Tulsidas left his wife and became an
ascetic.
