Sampangi Rama Nagar Sri Prasanna Ganapathi & Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Swamy Temple, Bengaluru

The Sri Prasanna Ganapathi and Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Swamy Temple located in Sampangi Rama Nagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka, was originally consecrated in 1977.

History

The land for the temple was granted by the Bangalore City Corporation, with the support of then MLA K. R. S. Naidu and Mayor Lakshman Rao. Their efforts helped establish this sacred place for devotees in the heart of the city. Later, in 2012, the temple administration was officially taken over by the Government Endowment Department, bringing it under formal government management.

Deities in the Temple

During the initial consecration in 1977, several important shrines were established within the temple complex. These include:

  • Sri Prasanna Ganapathi

  • Navagrahas (Nine planetary deities)

  • Sri Panduranga with Rukmini Devi

  • Sri Subrahmanya Swamy

  • Sri Venugopala Krishna Swamy

  • Sri Parvati Parameshwara

  • Sri Ramachandra Swamy and His divine family

Later, in 1999, the Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Swamy Temple structure was expanded with the construction of:

  • Vimana Gopura (tower above the sanctum)

  • Raja Gopura (main temple tower)

  • Mukha Mantapa (main prayer hall)

Important Festivals and Rituals

Many religious ceremonies and traditional festivals are celebrated throughout the year at the temple.

Chaitra Month

  • A special worship is conducted for Sri Ramachandra Swamy by the Karaga priests of Dharmaraya Temple in Bengaluru.

Jyeshtha Bahula Chaturthi

  • Annual festival (Varshikotsava) of the presiding deity.

Ashada Month

  • Dindi Utsava

  • Pandari Bhajans (devotional singing in the Pandharpur tradition)

Ashada Shuddha Ekadashi

  • Special Ekadashi prayers.

Shravana Month

  • Special Saturday pujas

  • Festivals for the Utsava Murthy on Shravana Nakshatra days.

Bhadrapada Shuddha Chaturthi to Ashwija Bahula Saptami

  • A 48-day Alankara Seva, where the deity is decorated in different forms each day.

Mandala Pooja

  • Annadanam (free food distribution) is organized for devotees every year.

Navaratri Festival

  • For 10 days, Lalitha Sahasranama chanting and Homas (fire rituals) are performed.

Kartika Month

  • Rudrabhisheka and Maha Mrityunjaya Japa for Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Margashira–Pushya Months

  • Dhanurmasa Pujas are conducted in the early morning.

Vaikuntha Ekadashi

  • Celebrated grandly for Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Swamy, drawing large numbers of devotees.
