Draksharamam, located in the East Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh, is one of the most revered spiritual destinations for devotees of Lord Shiva. Known as Dakshina Kasi Kshetram, this ancient temple houses Lord Bhimeswara Swamy and Goddess Manikyamba. About 44 km from Draksharamam lies Kumararama, another significant Pancharama Kshetram. The deity, Kumara Bhimeswara Swamy, is enshrined in the form of a limestone linga. The temple architecture reflects the elegance of Chalukyan craftsmanship, making it not just a spiritual visit but also an artistic experience. A journey of about one hour takes pilgrims from Draksharamam to this sacred site.
Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple, Annavaram
Located around 75 km from Draksharamam, the temple of Sri Satyanarayana Swamy at Annavaram stands atop Ratnagiri Hill. Built in traditional Dravidian style, the shrine uniquely features Lord Satya Deva with Sri Anantha Lakshmi on one side and Lord Shiva on the other. The serene elevation of the hill and the panoramic view it offers enhance the devotional atmosphere for visitors.
Sri Uma Markandeswara Swamy Temple, Rajahmundry
Approximately an hour from Draksharamam is the temple dedicated to the sage Markandeya, blessed by Lord Shiva with eternal youth after his devotion moved the Lord to protect him from untimely death. The temple stands as a reminder of divine compassion and the power of unwavering faith.
Ashta Someswarulu: The Eight Sacred Lingas
Surrounding Draksharamam in eight directions are the Ashta Someswarulu, representing the eight Shiva lingas installed by Chandra Deva to appease Lord Shiva. These shrines, located at Kolanka, Venturu, Kotipalli, Vella, Korumella, Someswaram, and Penumalla, form a sacred protective orbit around the main temple. Visiting these temples is believed to grant peace, clarity, and blessings from Lord Shiva.
