Keecheri Chirakutti Puthiya Kavu Temple – Vayalile Kottam – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Keecheri Chirakutti Puthiya Kavu temple – Vayalile Kottam – is located at Keechery in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and other related deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for four days in Malayalam Dhanu Masam – Dhanu 26 to Dhanu 29 (January 10 to January 13).

Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Keechery Chirakutti Puthiyakavu temple are Aryappoonkanni theyyam, Bapporan theyyam, Ilamkolam theyyam, Panjuruli theyyam, Puthiya Bhagavathy theyyam, Raktha Chamundi theyyam, Thottinkara Bhagavathy theyyam, Veera Kali theyyam, Veeran theyyam and Vishnumoorthi theyyam.

The temple has a small chathura sreekovil with a traditionally decorated roof. Other deities are worshipped on smaller sanctums and on raised for square platforms. Some deities are given a place under trees. Sankranti in every month is of significance here.
