Kunhimangalam Kadamkottu Makkam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Kunhimangalam Kadamkottu Makkam temple is located near Kunhimangalam in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Makkam and other deities that are worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 10 and Kumbham 11 (March 26 and March 27).

The main shrine is a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. The other important deities are worshipped on smaller sreekovil (s) and atop square platforms. Some deities are worshipped under trees. Sankranthi in all Malayalam months are of great significance here. Nagas are worshipped in the temple.
