Dhandiyanghanathu Bhagavathy Theyyam, also known as Kammadathamma Theyyam, is a very popular theyyam performed during the annual theyyam – thira – kaliyattam festival in Kasaragod region of Kerala. As per information, the theyyam is associated with Goddess Mahakali (Durga and Bhagavathy). As per Dhandiyanghanathu Bhagavathy theyyam story, she is believed to have taken the ferocious form to protect the wealth and life of a staunch devotee of hers. Her theyyam is performed in those places wherever she appeared. She is believed to have protected animals and livestock.


It is also believed that to control and manage the unimaginable power of a ferocious goddess, she was given a spot in a sacred space and a theyyam.

Dhandiyanghanathu Bhagavathy theyyam blesses devotees with peace and prosperity. She is also believed to cure contagious diseases.

She appears in a ferocious form holding a sword to protect the wealth and life of her devotees. She is also propitiated to defeat enemies.
