Aali Theyyam is a rare theyyam performed in temples, kavu and tharavadu during the annual theyyam season in Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala. Aali Theyyam is also known as Aali Chamundi and Ali Bhootham. As per information, Aali Theyyam is a Muslim or Mappilla theyyam. The story of Aali theyyam is that of Goddess annihilating him.
Aali was a powerful sorcerer who troubled the region of Kumbala and a Thiya tharavadu in Areekkadi. The sorcerer tried to forcibly take away a beautiful girl of the house. The head of the family offered prayers to Padarkulangara Bhagavathy. Bhagavathy asked Puthiya Bhagavathy to find a solution to the problem.
Puthiya Bhagavathy took the form of a beautiful maiden and attracted the sorcerer. She took him to bathe in a pond and when he was distracted she removed all his talismans. Bhagavathy then took her ferocious form and annihilated him.
The ghost of Aali (Ali Bhootham) started troubling people in the region. To find a solution to this problem, people decided to give him a space in their worship places and to perform a theyyam in his name annually.
There is a belief that Aali was killed by Raktha Chamundi.

മുഖത്ത് കരിതേച്ച്, തലയില്‍ സ്വര്ണ്ണ നിറമുള്ള നീളന്‍ തൊപ്പിയും കഴുത്തില്‍ പൂമാലകളും ചുവന്ന സില്ക്ക് മുണ്ടും ധരിച്ചു കയ്യില്‍ ചൂരല്‍ വടിയുമായിട്ടാണ് ആലി തെയ്യത്തിന്റെ പുറപ്പാട്.
കുമ്പളയിലെ ആരിക്കാടി പാടാര്കുളങ്ങര ഭഗവതി സ്ഥാനത്ത് മീന മാസത്തില്‍ നടക്കുന്ന തെയ്യാട്ടത്തില്‍ ആലി തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നു.
കാവിന്റെ ഇടതു ഭാഗത്ത് പ്രത്യേക സ്ഥാനത്തിരുന്നാണ് ആലി തെയ്യം അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതു.
തുളു നാട്ടിലെ ചില തീയ്യ തറവാട്ടുകളിലും ഈ തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടാറുണ്ട്.
