Eruvatty Koyalakunnath Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival

Eruvatty Koyalakunnath temple is located at Eruvatty near Kadirur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to various deities. The annual kaliyattam – theyyam festival in the temple is held for three days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 7, Makaram 8, and Makaram 9 (January 24 to January 27).


The main shrine is with a small decorated chathura sreekovil. The other deities are worshipped on square platforms and also in small sreekovils. There is no daily pooja. Puja is held on the Sankranthi day as per Malayalam calendar.

The important theyyams performed in the temple are Thekkan Gulikan theyyam, Malakkari theyyam, Angakkaran theyyam, Kathivanoor Veeran theyyam, Sasthappan or Kuttichathan theyyam, Bappooran theyyam, Karanavar theyyam, Elladath Bhagavathy theyyam and Porkkali Bhagavathy theyyam.

Vishu is an important festival in the temple.
