Dakshineswar Kali temple, located at Kolkata, Bengal, deeply associated with Sri Ramakrishna, hosts elaborate arrangements for the puja and is noted for its food offerings. The bhog or prasad is meticulously prepared and is famous for its fish dishes.
For Kali Puja, the Mother’s rice offering (Anno Bhog)
includes plain rice and ghee-rice. This is accompanied by five types of
vegetable curries, five types of fried items (bhaja), and five types of fish
preparations.
The fried items and curries are made with common vegetables,
and there are no rigid rules.
The fish served includes Pona (small carp), Parshe (Mullet),
Koi (Climbing perch), Prawn, Rui (Rohu), and Katla (Catla)—whatever is
available in the market.
The offering also includes chutney, paramanna (payesh/rice
pudding), and five types of sweets.
The evening offering, known as 'Baikalik', consists of
various kinds of fruits.
Animal sacrifice used to be performed in this temple, but it
has been stopped for a long time. Meat is not part of the Mother’s menu.
