Magh Ganesh Chaturthi Festival In Maharashtra in January - February

Magh Ganesh Chaturthi is observed as Ganesh Puja in Maharashtra and in many regions. This Vinayaka Chaturthi is observed on the Shukla paksha Chaturthi tithi of Magh month - a day before Basant Panchami (Saraswati Puja or Sri Panchami). Magh Ganesh Chaturthi 2027 date is February 10.

Magh Ganesh Chaturthi Scripture Reference

The Ganesha Khanda of the Brahma Vaivarta Purana states that Ganesha was born as the son of Parvati (daughter of the Mountain King) and Maheshwara through the will of Bhagavan Vishnu himself on the fourth day of the waxing moon in the month of Magh (January - February).

Numerous Ganesh temples in Maharashtra and Goa observe festivals and numerous rituals on the day.

Interestingly, in Bengal too Magh Ganesh Chaturthi was famous till a few decades ago. It was auspicious to worship Ganesha on the day as it was followed by the worship of Goddess Saraswati on the next day.
