Hindu Temples at Osian near Jodhpur in Rajasthan

Osian is located around 66 km northwest of Jodhpur in Rajasthan and is famous for Hindu Temples. There are eighteen temples dedicated to Hinduism and Jainism here.


12 temples at Osian were built during the 8th and 9th century by the Pratihara rulers.

The rest of the temples built later are located on a hill east of Osian Village.

Three Vaishnava Temples built during the 8th and 9th century consists of sanctum, vestibule, semi-open pillared hall and porch. These temples are not ornate. Two of these temples is a complex of five shrines on the same platform. The three temples are also referred as Harihara Temples. One of the temple in the group is noted for its exceptional design.

Osian also has a pair of Surya temples and a pair of Shiva temples.

Two important Shakti temples here are the Pipla Devi Temple dedicated to Mahishasuramardini and Sachiya Mata Temple.
