To get married in a Hindu Temple
in Tamil Nadu the groom and bride (the boy and girl or couple) need to produce
a certain set of documents. They also need to follow the rules and regulations
of the concerned temple. These are displayed on the notice boards in important
temples in Tamil Nadu. The filmy type of sudden runaway marriage in front of
the murti in the temple performed by a priest never happens in reality.
The Documents needed are:
Birth Certificates of Bride and Groom
Address proof of Bride and Groom
Age proof (Birth certificate, School Leaving certificate
etc)
A Tahsildar-attested document stating that it is the first
marriage for both bride and groom.
A letter of consent from both parents.
These are the basic documents needed for conducting a
marriage in the temple. They might vary from temple to temple.
After the marriage is completed a certificate is issued from
the temple. You have to take this certificate to the registrar who will issue a
government approved marriage certificate.
Your marriage will only stand valid when you get the
marriage registered with the government. This certificate is necessary for
applying for Visa and several other purposes.
