Arathil Sree Bhadrapuram Temple – Festival

Arathil Sree Bhadrapuram temple is located around 2 km from Pilathara in Kannur district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. The annual Kaliyattam festival in the temple is held from Malayalam masam Meenam 25 to Meenam 29 (April 8 or 9 to April 12 or 13).

The temple also has murtis of various other forms of Bhagavathi and Vishnu murti. Bhagavathi is worshipped in the form of Shanta Durga. It is believed that couples facing problems in having children find relief after offering prayers here.

The annual festival is famous for kottipadal, valiya guruthi, thottangal, theyyam kolangal, purappadu of Vishnu murti, purappadu of Arathil Bhagavathi, and prasada ottu.

The theyyams performed in the temple are Karutha bhootham, Bhairavan, Pazhachiyil Bhagavathi, Pallikulangara Bhagavathy, Alamkulangara Bhagavathy, Rakteshwari, Kutti Sasthan, Kakkara Bhagavathy, Athyunnathu Bhagavathi, Raktha Chamundi, Karattu Bhagavathy, Madiyil Chamundi, Kelamkulangara Bhagavathy, Kundor Chamundi, and Chalilthottukara Bhagavathy. There is also koodiyattam of Madayil Chamundi and Kelamkulangara Bhagavathy.

During the festival period devotees making offerings of niramala, annadanam, molam vazhipadu, and guruthi. During the purappadu of Bhagavathi various offerings like pattu, thali, thottilum kunju, kai, kalu, kannu and ilaneer are offered. There is also opportunity to make thulabharam offering.

The annual pratishta festival in the temple is held on Edavam 1 and 2 (May 15 and May 16). Acharyavaranam, prasada shuddhi, prasada purusha puja, astra kalasham, rakshoghna homam, vastu homam, vastu kalasham, vastu bali, vastu kalasabhishekam, vastu punyaham, sarpa bali and thiruvathazha puja are held on the first day.

Ashta dravya homam, Sri Bhootha Bali, Maha Mrityunjaya homam, chathu shuddhi, dhara, panchagavya, kalabha puja, kalabhabhishekam, prasada ottu, keli, thidambu nritham, niramala, deeparadhana, thayambaka and thiruvathazham puja are performed on the second day.

Ramayana masam is also observed in the temple with various homams, rituals and reading of Ramayan. Navratri and Vijayadashami are observed with various pujas and musical programs.
