Book on when was Lord Ram Born?

Lord Ram was born on the noon of January10 in the year 5114 BC. In Hindu calendar, it was the ninth day of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month. Stunned! Well, this exact date of the birthday of Lord Rama is found in the book ‘Dating the Era of Lord Ram’ by Shri Pushkar Bhatnagar. The exact date was obtained by entering the planetary configuration at the time of the birth of Lord Ram as mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana in Planetarium Software. Interestingly, for thousands of years Hindus have been celebrating Ram Navmi, the birthday of Lord Ram, exactly on the same time and date.

In the original Sanskrit Ramayana written by Sage Valmiki, while mentioning about the birth of Lord Ram, Valmiki had mentioned the astronomical details of the precise moment. Valmiki himself was present in the palace of Dasaratha and he mentions it thus in Bala Kanda of Ramayana.

On completion of the ritual six seasons have passed by and then in the twelfth month, on the ninth day of chaitra month when the presiding deity of ruling star of the day is Aditi, where the ruling star of day is punarvasu, the asterism is in the ascendant, and when five of the nine planets viz., Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus are at their highest position, when Jupiter with Moon is ascendant in Cancer, and when day is advancing, then Queen Kausalya gave birth to a son with all the divine attributes like lotus-red eyes, lengthy arms, roseate lips, voice like drumbeat, and who took birth to delight the Ikshwaku dynasty, who is adored by all the worlds, and who is the greatly blessed epitome of Vishnu, namely Rama. [1-18-8, 9, 10, 11]

When this data was entered in the Planetarium software, the day was January 10, 5114 BC. But how could Chaitra Shukla Navami occur in January? We celebrate Ram Navami in March or April. The answer to this was found in an article in Organizer.

There is an astronomical phenomenon called ‘precision’ of the sun as also of the equinoxes. According to the latter, the star which is now taken to be the Pole Star (Dhruv Tara), would yield the place to the Star Abhijit (Vega, alpha Lyrae), 14,000 years from now. So when the lunar month of Chaitra occurred seven thousand years ago in the month of January, 7000 years later, it occurs in the month of (generally) April.

Further, Valmiki had mentioned about other planetary configuration. One such was the planetary configuration when King Dashratha decided to make Lord Ram the king of Ayodhya. According to the book, such a planetary configuration was prevailing on January 5, 5089 BC. Lord Ram was then 25 years old and there are indications in the Ramayana that Lord Ram left Ayodhya when he was 25.

The solar eclipse mentioned in the Ramayana work out precisely to the Ramayana period. From an article written in 2003 in the Tribune by Saroj Bala on the book ‘Dating the Era of Lord Ram’

Valmiki Ramayana refers to the solar eclipse at the time of war with Khardushan in latter half of 13th year of Shri Ram’s living in forests. Valmiki has also mentioned that it was Amavasya that day and planet Mars was in the middle. When this data was entered, the computer software indicated that there was a solar eclipse on October 7, 5077 BC (Amavasya day) which could be seen from Panchvati. On that date, the planetary configuration was the same as has been described by Valmiki i.e. Mars was in the middle, on one side were Venus and Mercury and on the other side were Sun and Saturn. On the basis of planetary configurations described in various other chapters, the date on which Ravana was killed works out to December 4, 5076 BC. Shri Ram completed 14 years of exile on January 2, 5075 BC. That day was also Navami of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month. Thus, Shri Ram had come back to Ayodhya when he was 39 years old (5114-5075).

To understand the book ‘Dating the Era of Lord Ram’ one needs to have some elementary knowledge of astronomy.

When we try to prove the birth of Hindu icons, it must be understood that these Hindu icons rarely bothered about birth and death. Through Sanatana Dharma they teach us to rise above birth and death. It believes that life is a continuity. And therefore it scoffs at the debates like ‘No Ram’ and ‘Yes Ram lived.’

A very interesting post.
Thanks Abhi.

I especially thought that the last paragraph was a nice touch.
I sincerely hope ASI and all concerned agencies do a thorough job of clarifying our history. However, the rest of us should spend less time questioning the historical accuracy of the stories / mythologies and more in understanding the message passed on to us through those.

It is mentioned in Srimad Bhagvatam that Lord Ram was born in Tredha Yug more than 1.7 million years ago. There are several Hindu scriptures subscribing to this age old view. Then the new date of 5114BC is misleading. This prediction based on the plenetary configuration or calculation by the computer, is mere scholarly exercise and only means that certain plenetary configurations occur more than once in the vast history of mankind.
The age of Ramsethu 'Adams Bridge' as verified by NASA shuttle images is the oldest manmade structure and its estimated age is also around 1.7 million years, which agrees with srimad Bhagvatam. In my humble view further research is needed to arrive at the correct birth date of Lord Ram. Let us not make a mockery of our holy scriptures and continue to distort the religious history of Bharat, just like the Britishers tried to do in their period of rule. We are now a free nation.
Jai Shri Ram!

As per Ramayana Lord Rama, after the demise of Sita ruled Ayodhya for 13,000 years! Therefore there is some flaw in the assesment. Besides every year we get Rama Navami during March, April or May periods. The new International Calendar, which is based on the Birth of Christ is very inaccurate and full of errors. It is better left these things alone. As far as many people are concerned whether Ram existed or not is irrelevant, to some it is just a myth. Whatever one's belief may be Truth always stands out. Hinduism is not a religion, it is a Dharma. Our Arya Rishis pretty well knew that Kaliyuga is period for Adharma that is why this Sanathan Dharma has been labelled as Religion and other religions are ruling over.
Religion is based on blind belief, Dharma is based on Truth. This is why Sanathana Dharma can not be extinguished from the World. Because whole universe relies on it.

This is an appreciable attempt to go in depth of our religious scriptures on scientifically base. The similar occassions must have appeared many times prior to 5114 BC as well. Let us try to further investigate for previous time-frames, which matches to our definition of Yuga i.e. Satyug (17,28,000 lunar years), Tretayug (12,96,000 lunar years), Dwaparyug (8,64,000 lunar years) and Kaliyug (4,32,000 lunar years).

Why do we have to turn Hinduism into a written-in-stone religion like Islam and Christianity? My favourite part of hinduism is its vagueness. Let us not try to recast our very ORIGINAL belief system into an Abrahamic mould.

According to one belief, Shri Ram was born in the tretha yug of 24th mahayug. Currently we are in the kali yug of 27th mahayug. So Lord Ram was born 13th yugs ago. So I am skeptical about the date of 5114 B.C. More research is needed to find out the truth.

Excellent article these fact bring to light that our history is not mythology and the scared science of astrology are able to prove it and Iam particular happy to know all these may bhaghavan bless the writer and please also publish more articles like these on mahabharat and all the other stories related.

As per the Shasthras and Puranas we are in the 7th Manvanthara , this manvanthara is called as Vaisvatha Manvanthara(there are 14 manvantharas), in the present manvanthara we are in 27 th chathuryuga(each manvanthara has 71 and odd chathuryuga)
in the present chathuryuga we are now in Kaliyuga which started 5107 yrs back.
Shri Ramji was in 24th chaturyuga>treta yuga
we are in 27th chathuryuga> kaliyuga
each chathuryuga has 43 lacs 32 thousand years
i.e 4.3 million years So according to this Shri Ramji lived approximately 11 million years ago.
Valmiki Ramayana says Shri Ramji ruled Ayodhya for 14 K years

I too agree with what Nandagopal and Ravi Rustogi have said, as for the Statistics concerned, it is unimaginable to think that Lord Ram was born some 7000 years back.

I doubt this because, we need to realise that there was DwaparaYuga after the Treta Yuga in which Our Lord Ram was born. KaliYug itself is 1,25,000 years and DwaparaYug is alomost double the length of KaliYug.

But, I liked the last Paragraph which brings out the real meaning of what Hinduism (a name given by us only) even though it can't be treated like a religion , is all about.

I believe Hinduism is about the way of living.

Its better to drop the issue of date of birth of Lord Rama and develop firm Faith in Him. Since nothing can be proved beyond doubt in these kind of issues, its safer to leave it, as further research will only lead to questioning the credibility of the fact of birth of Lord Rama Himself by the non-believers.!

I DO BELIEVE IN THE WORDS OF Mr Shanmugam

we have to drop the issue of birthof our LORD RAM AND FOLLOW THE WAY SHOWN BY HIM

It is realy rare and great book. The reference made by You is good. Birth date of Ram just before 7000 years is absolutly agreeble and matching of the dates with Solar position is too agreeble. However some people adomently not agree even the god ram may appear and said about him. We also makes some confussion about historical years. We say krtha yuga, thuvaraka yuga, etc which are counted in lakhs. that is why we face lot of comments from unagreeable people. It is the response of ours to make correct or proof-Janagan M

I dont like the term "MYTHOLOGY".Ramayanam, Bhavatam and Mahabharatam are not mythologies. They are not just Myth.It really exists.I want to eliminate this term used for our Indian Ancient History.

Lovely post. I've always wanted this kind of investigation to be done on our scriptures but didn't know how. As some people mentioned in the comments, it is possible that this kind of astronomical combinations occured prior to year 5114 B.C. Maybe more re-search could lead to a more precise answer. Thank you for this post.
