Yadavabhyudayam – Epic Poem On Sri Krishna By Vedanta Desika

Yadavabhyudayam, an epic poem from South India by Vedanta Desika (1268 – 1369 CE), describes the life and activities of Sri Krishna against the background of the philosophy of Vishishtadvaita, following the general pattern of epic poems (Mahakavyas). The story for Yadavabhyudayam is taken from Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana.  Vedanta Desika, also known as Venkatanatha, was a great exponent of Visishtadvaita, the philosophical school of qualified monism. The poem, in twenty four cantos, consists of 2,643 verses in diverse meters. Vedanta Desika takes up each episode in the life of Krishna and gives it a poetic touch with a philosophical interpretation. The sixth canto is devoted to the display of poetic embellishment through the sounds of words. He follows the style of Kalidasa. As the author has a very good command of the language, he is able to change his style to suit the sentiment. Valapad Valavath Bhadrakali Vishnumaya Temple – Festival

Valapad Valavath Bhadrakali Vishnumaya temple is located at Valapad beach near Nattika - Triprayar in Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The annual festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam. This is a typical Kerala temple with a two tier vatta sreekovil and upa devata shrines. A shila vigraham of Devi with four hands in sitting posture is worshipped in the temple. All the pujas and rituals performed during annual festivals in Thrissur region including seeveli, sree bhootha bali, and Ganapati homam are performed during the annual festival. Melam, ezhunellippu and arattu are held during the festival. The temple also observes Navratri festival. Ashtami, Navami and Vijayadashami or Vidyarambham is held in the shrine.

Kilimanoor Puthiyakavu Devi Temple – Pongala Festival

Kilimanoor Puthiyakavu Devi temple is located on the Kilimanoor – Alamcode road near  Kilimanoor in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The annual pongala festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam. The temple also observes the famous Kumbha Bharani festival. This is a typical Kerala temple with a chathura sreekovil, and upa devata shrines. The annual festival in the temple is famous for Pongala ritual. Thiruvannur Villikavu Temple – Festival

Thiruvannur Villikavu temple is located at Thiruvannur in Kozhikode district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The annual pratishta and Thalappoli festival is held in Kumbha Masam. The shrine is famous in the region for Thira festival. Special rituals, pujas and lighting of lamps are held during the annual festival.   Kerala temple folk art forms are part of the annual festival. Tripunithura Sree Rama Devaswom Temple – Festival

Tripunithura Sree Rama Devaswom temple is located at Tripunithura in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Ram, Mata Sita and Lakshman. Ooramana Narasimha Murti Temple – Ooramana Perumthrikkovil And Sastha Temple

Ooramana Narasimha Murti temple is located at Ooramana in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The temple is also known as Perumthrikkovil temple. There are two deities in the temple – Narasimha and Sastha. A ferocious form of Narasimha murthy is worshipped in the temple. The murti worshipped in Ooramana Narasimha temple is believed to have been consecrated by Parashurama. The prathishta in the vatta sreekovil is made from Anjana Shila. The murti is tied using panchaloham. There are no upa devatas in the temple. Azhikode Parayangattu Kshetram Muneshwara Mandiram ( അഴീക്കോട് പരയങ്ങാട്ട് ക്ഷേത്രം മുനീശ്വര മന്ദിര o) temple is located at Azhikode in Kannur district, Kerala. The 3-day Thira festival is an important event in the temple. The festival is famous for the performance of various traditional rituals and pujas. Thottangal ( തോറ്റങ്ങൾ) , Rakteshwari ( രക്തേശ്വരി ) and Sasthappan ( ശാസ്തപ്പൻ) thira ( തിറകൾ ) are performed on the first day. Prasada Sadya ( പ്രസാദസദ്യ) , Thee Chamundi Anthithotam ( തീച്ചാമുണ്ഡിയുടെ അന്തിത്തോറ്റം) and Theeppanakkam ( തീപ്പണക്കം) are performed on the second day. Puthiyankam Puthukulangara Kandamuthan temple ( പുതിയങ്കം പുതുക്കുളങ്ങര കണ്ടമുത്തൻ ക്ഷേത്ര o) is located near Alathur in Palakkad district, Kerala. The annual Pongala festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam (February – March). The first day of the festival is dedicated to Pongala ritual. Kanniyar Kali ( കണ്യാർകളി ) is held on the second day and third day and this includes Porattukal ( പൊറാട്ടുകൾ ). The festival concludes on the fourth day with poovaral ( പൂവാരൽ ). The annual prathishta dinam in the temple is also held in Kumbha Masam.

Velliyamparamba Pulli Vettakorumakan Temple – Thira Festival

Velliyamparamba Pulli Vettakkorumakan temple is located at Velliyam Paramba or Velliyamparambu near Mattannur in Kannur district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Vettaikorumakan – Shiva concept deity. The annual Thira and Vellattam festival in the temple is held from Kumbha Masam 20 to 22 (March 4 to March 6). Thiruvathira Festival – Kandankulangara Bhagavathy Temple In Chittoor Sri Krishna Temple

Kandankulangara Bhagavathy temple is located in the northeastern part of Chittoor Sri Krishna Swamy temple located at South Chittoor, northwestern part of Kochi, Ernakulam district, Kerala. This is an ancient temple believed to have existed prior to Chittoor Sri Krishna temple. The annual Thiruvathira festival is a major event in the temple. The shrine is on the banks of Agnihothra Theertham (temple pond). The shrine is nearly 2000 years old. Kandamkulangara Bhagavathy is believed to be Goddess Bhadrakali. Thirunarayanapuram Vishnu Temple is located on the Shoranur – Perinthalmanna road near Kattuppara in Malappuram district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Bhagavan Vishnu. The annual pratishta festival in the temple is held in Kumbha masam (February – March). This is a small temple located amidst beautiful surroundings. The main deity is a chatur bahu Vishnu worshipped inside a Chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. The shrine has a chuttambalam and namaskara mandapam. The Kuntiuzha River flows nearby. Akaloor Chendapuram Maha Vishnu Temple – Festival

Akaloor Chendapuram Maha Vishnu temple is located at Akalur near Lakkidi in Palakkad district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Mahavishnu. The annual pratishta festival in the temple is held in Kumbha masam (February – March). This is a small temple located amidst beautiful surroundings. The main deity is worshipped inside a vatta sreekovil – round sanctum sanctorum.  As per history, the temple was ransacked and the murti of Bhagavan was destroyed by Tipu Sultan. Komangalam Shiva temple is located near Koottanad in Palakkad district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Shiva – Mahadeva. The annual Shivratri festival is observed here with great importance. The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy and Goddess Devi This is a typical Kerala style temple with a nalambalam, namaskara mandapam and chatura sreekovil. Separate shrines are there for upa devatas. The temple observes Shivratri with homams, dhara and abhishekam. Maha Mrityunjaya homam and Rudra dhara and pushpanjali are performed here. The shrine also observes Ramayana Masam, Mandalakalam, Navratri, Thrikarthika and Thiruvathira in Dhanu Masam.
