Importance Of Tuesday In Jyeshta Month

Tuesday or Mangalwar in Jyeshta Month (May – June) is of great importance in North India. Special prayers are offered to Hanuman on this day and it is known as Bada Mangal. Special prayers are offered in Bajarang Bali temples on all Tuesdays of Jyeshta month in Lucknow. The Tuesday in Jyeshta month is known as Bada Mangal because is widely believed that Hanuman met Sri Ram for the first time on a Tuesday in Jyeshta. It is this divine incident that makes the day highly auspicious. It is believed that offering prayers to Hanuman who is still living on earth will help in achieving peace, prosperity, happiness and Ashirwad. The main offerings done on Tuesday include Chana, Jaggery and Mitti Pudi ( मीठी पूड़ी ). Many devotees perform donation of food and water on the day as it is believed to be highly meritorious.

Protection of Nature and Environment in Arthashastra of Kautilya

Arthashastra is a handbook for running an empire, written by Kautilya (also known as Chanakya, c. 350-275 BCE) an ancient Hindu statesman and philosopher, chief advisor of Emperor Chandragupta. Kautilya regarded the protection of nature and environment as an essential part of state administration. He advised the king to protect his kingdom from various kinds of environmental problems like fire, flood, pestilential diseases, famine, etc. He suggested punishment to those who polluted the environment by way of throwing dirt on roads, causing mire or water to collect in a street, or relieving themselves in public places, pilgrimage centers, royal or temple premises or near water reservoirs. Severe punishments were laid down for those who destroyed or disturbed plant or animal life. He held that it was the duty of a king to maintain various kinds of forests in his kingdom. Reserved forests were to be rendered free of all dangers of destruction and human exploitation.

Markanda Mandir – Markanda Mahadev Temple Complex Chamorshi Gadchiroli

Markanda Mandir is a temple complex at Chamorshi in Gadchiroli District in Maharashtra. The most famous among the group of temples is the Markanda Mahadev Temple. The temples spread over 40 acres of land is located on the left bank of Wainganga River in Markanda Village, 216 km southeast of Nagpur in Maharashtra. As per the local tradition, the place is called Markandi or Markanda Deva. Two of the major temples here are attributed to Markanda Rishi and his father Mrkunda. Most temples in the Markanda Mandir group contain Shivlinga. Sir Alexander Cunningham, during his archeological research conducted in 1873-74, noted twenty four temples in the group, but now there are eighteen. Of these, Markandeshwara (Markandeya Rishi Temple), Yamadharma temple, Mrkunda Rishi Temple and Shankara Temple are important.
