Sri Krishna Eating Banana Peel – Story on Greatness of Unflinching Devotion

Sri Krishna has on numerous occasions proved to the world that it is unflinching devotion that matters not rituals and pujas. The story of Sri Krishna eating banana peel is found in the Mahabharata. The incident happened at the house of Vidura, uncle of Pandavas and Kauravas.
Sri Krishna went to the Kauravas as a mediator before the beginning of the Great War in the Mahabharata as Pandavas did not want to go to war against their cousins. The mission was unsuccessful as the Kauravas were adamant they were not ready to give even a single house to the Pandavas.
From the Hastinapaura palace, Sri Krishna then went to the house of Vidura. But he was not present.

Vidura’s wife Sulabha, who was present at the house, was spellbound by the presence of Krishna. She brought a banana to offer to Krishna. She was so enraptured that she threw the banana away and offered the peel.

Krishna noticed it but ate the banana peel as it was offered to him with pure heart and unwavering devotion.

The heads were part of a causeway depicting the famous Samudra Manthan or Churning of ocean mentioned in the Hindu Puranas.  Phnomepenhpost reports  The heads were part of a causeway depicting an ancient Hindu legend in which gods (devas) and demons (asuras) worked together to churn the ocean and release Amrita, the nectar of immortal life.
“Three [heads] were found. Two are intact, but one was broken in the head and mouth,” aid preservation official Mao Sy, adding that the statues came from the end of the 12th-century reign of Jayavarman VII.  Sy estimated the statues’ heads fell off their bodies several decades ago and were buried by layers of earth brought in by floods.  The heads were part of a causeway depicting the stirring of the Ocean of Milk, an ancient Hindu fable under which gods and demons worked together to churn the seas by wrapping a serpent around a mountain a…

Akshaya Tritiya Quotes and Thoughts – Hindu Blog

Today, talk about Akshaya Tritiya and the first thing that comes to the mind is Gold – not Kuchela and Sri Krishna. Akshaya Tritiya is the day when Sri Krishna proved to the world that what matters is Bhakti or Devotion. Not rituals, not costly pujas, not austerities not torturing the body but steadfast devotion is what makes the difference. The sweat and stone filled beaten rice (aval or poha) of Kuchela turned to gold because of devotion.

Today we don’t remember Kuchela and Sri Krishna, but clearly remembers the gold. Gold is worshipped not God.
What a clever marketing executive of a jewelry shop executed a decade ago became a craze and today Akshaya Tritiya has become a day to buy anything and everything from gold to safety pin.
Ardha (wealth) is an important aspect in Hinduism
But Ardha (wealth) is only one among the purushartha – aims of life. There is also Dharma, Ardha, Kama, and Moksha.
Even when dealing with religious scriptures we are choosy, we twist them according to our…

A Major Obstacle to Spiritual Progress Is Negative Nature – Dadi Janki

A major obstacle to spiritual progress is one’s own negative nature. The root cause of this kind of nature is limited consciousness. This root has to be eliminated completely because obstacles that arise from a negative nature will prevent you from taking power from God.
Power from God is received through the awareness and faith that God belongs to you. A negative nature could destroy even this faith.
Limited thinking should simply not be tolerated.
There should be total cleanliness inside. For this you need to be very honest about the obstacles you are facing, because it is easy to deceive yourself.
Limited thinking will be transformed when you spend time in the awareness of your true nature of peace and in being of help to others.
