Story Of Chyavan – Son Of Puloma And Sage Bhrigu

The story of the interesting birth of Chyavan son of Puloma and Sage Bhrigu is found in the Kashidasi Mahabharat. Bhrigu was the son of Lord Brahma and his wife was Puloma. Puloma was pregnant and Sage Bhrigu went to perform his daily ablutions in a nearby river. A demon disguised as a sage came to the ashram of Bhrigu with the intention of kidnapping her. Not knowing the intention of the demon, Puloma invited the guest for food and offered him fruits. The demon had other intentions and addressed the fire burning in the kitchen. He asked the fire to be his witness. He wanted the fire to tell Puloma that her father had promised her in marriage to him. But broke it and got her married to Sage Bhrigu. Agni was not sure. So he whispered that Puloma’s father might have done that but she is sure that Bhrigu wedded her by going around the fire so she is now the wife of Bhrigu. The demon was unhappy with the answer of Agni and decided to forcibly take Puloma away.

Darsapurnamasa – Two Vedic Rituals

Darsapurnamasa is a compound of two words darsha and purnamasa. The Darsha and Purnamasa, two vedic rituals, are considered to be ishtis (the quintessence of all rituals). The others are more or less the modifications of these rituals. Hence a place of honor is assigned to them in most of the texts of Yajur Veda. Both rituals are performed to attain any particular desired result. In all other rituals, the rules and regulations governing these rituals are followed. Darsapurnamasa has to be performed throughout one’s life or till one becomes old and is unable to perform the rites. This is performed by the yajamana (performer) and his wife. Four priests: the Hotr, the Adhvaryu, the Agnindra and Brahma, help in the performance of the sacrifice and the mantras from Yajurveda and Rig Veda are employed. These two sacrifices belong to the group of naimittikas (occasional rites). These yajnas may have undergone many gradual changes. The changes are evident from the differences in th

There is no substitute to hard work and diligence

We have to handle challenges and emerge stronger from them. What should make us different is the equanimity and calmness with which we face a crisis. We all are unnecessarily afraid of the unknown. Why does the pigeon thrive in modern world? It has adapted to the circumstances. We need to learn to be flexible and adapt to the situation and conditions. If we expect unconditional love and support; then be ready to give it too. There is no substitute to hard work and diligence. The goal is important; equally important is enjoying the small steps towards the goal. www.hindu-blog.com Abhilash
