Chembilottu Bhagavathy Theyyam – Story – Information

Chembilottu Bhagavathy Theyyam is a rare theyyam performed during the annual Kaliyattam – theyyam thira festival in Kasaragod and Kannur region of Kerala. As per information Chembilot Bhagavathy is a manifestation of Mother Goddess Shakti (Goddess Kali). The story of Chembilottu Bhagavathy is that of her appearing to defeat demons. She drove away evil doers and protected the wealth, livestock and life of her devotees. As per Chembilottu Bhagavathy theyyam story, this is the eight-arm form of Goddess Bhagavathi. She has just chopped the head of Darikasuran and she is performing Tandava dance. The entire universe is trembling and earth will be soon shattered into two pieces. Ilavilly is a rare theyyam performed during the annual theyyam, thira and kaliyattam festival in Kannur region of Kerala. As per information, the kolam is  dedicated to a man who performed great deed in ancient times. Ilavilly theyyam story is that of a brave man sacrificing their lives for the welfare of the people and the region. He is believed to have died fighting enemies. He is worshipped in sacred places for their selfless service and later as a thanksgiving and respect he is given a theyyam. The theyyam is worshiped to get blessing from ancestors to defeat enemies and to achieve success in life. Ilavilly theyyam is performed at the Azhikode Sree Palottu Kavu temple in Kannur district of Kerala.

Alakkunnu Chamundi theyyam is a rare theyyam performed during the annual theyyam – thira – kaliyattam festival in Kannur region of Kerala. The theyyam is performed in tharavadu (houses). As per information, the theyyam is associated with Goddess Shakti (Durga and Bhagavathy). As per Alakkunnu Chamundi theyyam story, she is believed to have taken the ferocious form to protect the wealth and life of a staunch devotee of hers. Her theyyam are performed in those places wherever she appeared. Alakkunnu Chamundi theyyam blesses devotees with peace and prosperity. She is also believed to cure contagious diseases. She appears in a ferocious form to protect the wealth and life of her devotees. She is also propitiated to defeat enemies. Taliparamba Naduvil Ayyappa-Vanadurga temple (Vanadevatha Sthanam or Naduvil Vanadurga temple) and Pothukundu Veerabhadra temple are two important temples in which Alakkunnu Chamundi theyyam is performed.

Banashankari Navratri is nine-day festival, puja and rituals dedicated to Goddess Banashankari in the Kannada month of Paush in Karnataka.
