Goddess Mangala Chandika – About Goddess Mangalachandika

Goddess Mangala Chandika is an aspect of Mother Goddess Shakti. She is also one of the twenty four aspects of Goddess Kali. Mangalachandika is kind and loving form of Goddess Kali. Mangala Chandika always does good to her children. She is patient and forgives the mistakes of her children. It is said that at the beginning of the cycle of a creation she is kind and loving and as a cycle of creation nears its end, she becomes fierce and destructive. Symbolically it suggests that when there is Dharma, She is good and when Adharma dominates, she becomes all devouring Mother. As per one school of thought, Goddess Mangalachandika is born from the face of Mulaprakriti. Those who follow dharma and worship her are blessed with healthy children, wealth, reputation and welfare.

Mayil Kavadi

Mayil Kavadi is one of the different types of Kavadi taken by devotees to the hill shrines of Muruga. Mayil Kavadi is one of the most popular Kavadis. Mayil means Peacock and the bird is the vehicle or vahana of Muruga – Subramanya or Kartik. In the Mayil Kavadi, the stick is decorated on either side with peacock feathers, has a canopy of silk cloth, flowers and bells. It is brightly painted. Many tassels hand down. People carry Mayil Kavadi for desire fulfillment and as part of thanksgiving for favor received. Some people carry it purely out of devotion to Muruga. There are numerous designs of the Mayil Kavadi - some are simple. Some have two or three or five tiers. Some are beautifully decorated.

Thalasseri Nayanar Road Puthiyandi Kavu Temple – Kaliyattam Theyyam Festival

Thalasseri Nayanar Road Puthiyandi Kavu temple is located at Thalasseri in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to popular deities that are worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in Kannur region. The annual theyyam kaliyattam thira festival in the temple is held for two days in Dhanu Masam – Dhanu 11 and Dhanu 12 (December 26 and December 27). Thamburatti Theyyam The theyyams that are performed in this temple during kaliyattam festival are Thamburatti theyyam, Kuttichathan theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam and Gulikan theyyam. This is a small traditional Kerala style temple with a small chathura sreekovil. There are no major structures. Other deities popularly worshipped in Kavu and temples in Kannur region are also worshipped in the temple in small sreekovils and square platforms. Sankranti and Vishu are important days in the temple. The annual festival days are noted various unique pujas and rituals, melam, decoration, music, and traditional temple performing art forms.

Aryappoonkanni Theyyam – Information Story

Aryappoonkanni Theyyam is a Bhagavathi theyyam performed in many temples, kavu and tharavadu in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. As per information, this theyyam is believed to have arrived from Aryiyar land via sea. Aryappoonkanni theyyam begins with she and her brothers venturing out into the sea for finding more pearls for her marriage. Aaryappoonkanni was the daughter of Aryapattar and Arya Pattathi who lived in the Ariykara Narukayam. She was a virgin goddess. When there was not enough pearls for her marriage, she and her brothers went in search of it on marakkalam (type of boat). The boat capsized during a storm and the brothers and sister got separated. She floated aimlessly for seven days and reached land of the eighth day. She moved along the shore searching for her brothers.
