Hanuman Vratham 2024 in Karnataka in Margashirsh Month - Kannada Hanuman Jayanti

Hanuman Vratham is observed in Karnataka, Telangana and parts of Andhra Pradesh on the 13th day during the waxing phase of moon in Margashirsh month (November - December). Pancharatra Deepam

Pancharatra Deepam is the festival of lights in Tamil Nadu and it is observed on the full moon day (or a day earlier) in the  month of Karthigai  (November-December) on the Karthigai Nakshatram day. Pancharatra Deepam 2024 date is December 15. Pancharatra is the name associated with the tradition and rituals followed by the Vaishnava Community. Please note that in some years the day falls a day after the famous Karthigai Deepam. The main event on the day is the lighting of traditional oil lamps in the evening after sunset. Karthigai is the name of the one of the stars or Nakshatras and deepam is the term for light or diya. On the day, temples, homes and streets are decorated with traditional oil lamps. Special pujas and prayers are held in temples on the day. The lighting of lamp is an auspicious symbol and it is believed to usher in peace and prosperity. The day is also known as Vishnu Deepam.

Pratipakshabhavana In Hindu Philosophy

In Hindu philosophy, Pratipakshabhavana is a technique to control the mind. Bhavana means mental attribute. Pratipaksha means the opposite side. Pratipaksha Bhavana us a technique recommended by Patanjali (Yoga Sutra II 33-34) for overcoming savage tendencies of the mind which come in the way of the practice of yama (abstinences like non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, celibacy, and non-accumulation, and niyama (observances) like purity or cleanliness, contentment, penance, self study and submission to God. Demon Surapadman controlled all the known worlds and unleashed a reign of terror. He was finally annihilated by Murugan or Kartikeya. There are is an interesting story of Agnimukha, the second son of Demon Surapadman And Padmakomala. Padmakomala, was the daughter of Vishwakarma, the divine architect. He was forced to give her in marriage to Demon Surapadman. The couple had four sons and they showed extraordinary courage and strength. Agnimukha was the second of the demon couple. As a fetus in his mother’s womb, Agnimukha emitted sparks and thus he got the name ‘one with fire emitting mouth.’ He was also the favorite grandson of Surasai, mother of Supradaman. She blessed the little baby with a magic bow and called him Agnimukha – he who can spew fire from his mouth at will. It is said that during the reign of Surapadman, Agnimukha defeated the eight elephants who guard the eight cardinal directions. As per some scriptures, he also defeated Garuda and the Swan of Brahma.
