Symbolism In Karpur – Camphor in Hindu Worship – Why is Karpuram Used in Hindu Puja?

Karpur, camphor or karpuram or karpura, is a important item used in Hindu worship. It is offered mostly at the end of the worship after offering other items. Here is look as to why Karpuram is used in Hindu puja and its symbolism and reason. Camphor is one among the sixteen articles offered during an elaborate Hindu worship. It is also one of the most commonly offered five articles during a short puja. The ritual waving of lighted camphor is an act of adoration (nirajnama or mahanirajnam), absolving one of all the omissions in the course of worship and brining the worship to fruitful completion. Hindu texts glorify the waving of a lamp along with lighted camphor in front of the deity at night. The waving of lighted camphor removes ignorance and frees one from mundane existence. Camphor is held to be very pure, and the complexion of Shiva is often compared with its own color, as the famous hymn karpura gauram karunavataram… reveals. Karpur is preferred as incense because of it

Sage Karsnajini – Cited in Brahma Sutra On Karma And Conduct

Karsnajini is a sage cited in Brahma Sutra on karma and conduct. He is referred to in Brahmasutra (III.1.9) of Badarayana and is represented there as holding the view that the departed souls after residing in heaven come back to earth with their residual acts (karma). This view accords with that of Shankara too. The question that is raised in this aphorism of Brahmasutra (III-1.9), whether the departed souls, after experiencing in heaven the fruits of their actions during their lives on earth, come back with any residual action or without any such residue. The prima facie view is that they descend to the Earth without any residue, as the scripture (Chandogya Upanishad, V-10.5; Brihadaranyaka Upanishad IV-4-6) declares that the souls reside in heaven till their karma is exhausted. The same texts also states that souls when they return are born as human beings or animals according to their good or bad conduct. Some ancient sages were of the view that even though all the karma is ex

Wealth In Society Is Like Blood In The Body

Wealth in society is like blood in the body. The blood must circulate all through the body. If it does not reach any part of the body, that part gets withered and may even lead to gangrene jeopardizing the life of the person. Similarly, if wealth does not circulate in any part of the society or body politic, that part withers and ultimately leads to the death of that society. Socialism, as it is conceived today, is a product of materialism, but the present crisis is not merely in the outside world but also in the soul of man and it can be resolved only by religion which raises man to the divine state. Any amount of political or economic manipulations cannot meet the situation. Moreover, when we come to the establishment of socialism we are confronted with the selfishness in man. An Act of Parliament cannot make him unselfish. So when the Government tries to implant socialism, the selfish people resort to various methods to satisfy their greed such as hoarding, adulteration of food
