Veda Vrat Dedicated to Vedas – Chatur Ved Vrat

Veda Vrat is dedicated to Vedas – the four Vedas (Chatur Ved). The rituals associated with this Vrat begin in the Chaitra Month. Veda Vrat 2024 beginning date is March 26 – the first day of Chaitra Month as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India . Rig Veda is read or heard during Chaitra, Vaishakh and Jyeshta months. Yajur veda is read or heard during Ashada, Shravan and Bhadrapad months. Sama Veda is read or heard during Ashwin, Kartik and Margashirsh months. Atharva Veda is read or heard during Paush, Magh and Phalgun months. After completion of each Veda the devotee should perform food donation. The popular belief is that performing the Veda Vrat will help in attaining moksha while living on earth. Virupaksha Vrat Dedicated To Shiva for Curing Of Illness and Prosperity

Virupaksha Vrat is observed in Paush month. It is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva. Virupaksha Vrat 2025 date is January 12. Observing the vrat will help a person overcome fear of enemies. It helps in curing many illnesses. It is also ushers in prosperity. The vrat is observed on the fourteenth day during the waxing phase of moon in Paush month. The devotee keeping the vrat observed complete fast on the day. He offers water and bel leaves to Shiva. The person observing the vrat should do prayers to Shiva for a year. Daily morning prayers to Shiva. After one year, the person donates food and clothes to poor people. Vrisha Vrat in Kartik Month – Vrish Vrat

Vrish Vrat is observed in Kartik Month and is dedicated to Shiva. Vrisha Vrat 2024 date is November 15. The rituals and fasting associated with the vrat is observed on Kartik Purnima. The popular belief is that those observing the vrat will get opportunity to reside in Kailash near the feet of Shiva. On Kartik Purnima day, the devotee offers prayer to Shiva in the morning and evening. The person fasting only takes a single meal on the day. Performing food donation on the day is a must. The vrat is observed on Kartik Purnima – the full moon day in Kartik Month as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India .

Goddess Mangaladevi – Story of Goddess Mangaladevi

Goddess Mangaladevi is a manifestation of Mother Goddess Shakti and is mainly worshipped in South India . In some regions, as Mangala Devi is the goddess of auspiciousness – she is the mother that nourishes and protects her children. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Mangaladevi is closely related to Kannagi. Goddess Mangaladevi is believed to be Kannagi, the heroine of famous Tamil poem Silappathikaram - the Epic of the Anklet. The story has it that Kannagi’s husband Kovalan was unjustly put to death by the ruler of  Madurai  for stealing the anklet of the queen. Kannagi proves the innocence of her husband at the court and in anger sets the entire  Madurai  city on fire. She then leaves the  Madurai  city. Yugavatar Vrat in Bhadrapad Month

Yugavatar Vrat is observed in Bhadrapad month and partaking the vrat is equal to performing Shradh at Gaya . Yugavatar Vrat 2024 date is August 31. A special bath is performed by the devotee performing the fasting. On the day of the vrat during early morning hours, the person observing the vrat will rub cow dung, urine of cow (gomutra), mud and durva grass on the body. The person then takes bath. This bath has medicinal properties. Then prayers are offered to Vishnu in a temple or at home. Some religious scholars are of the view that Treta Yuga began on the day. Yugavatar Vrat is observed on the Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha Trayodashi Tithi – the thirteenth day during the waning phase of moon.

Bhogavapti Vrat in Ashada Month

Bhogavapti Vrat and fasting is observed mainly in Rajasthan and nearby regions in Ashada month as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in North India . Bhogavati Vrat 2024 date is from June 22 to June 24. The vrat is observed during the first three days of Ashada month as per purnimant calendar followed in North India . Prayers dedicated to Vishnu are performed for three days. Person observing the vrat will be blessed with peace and prosperity. On all three days pujas dedicated to Vishnu are performed in the morning and evening. The person only eats vegetarian food. Performing annadanam or food donation during the period is considered highly meritorious. Bhogavapti Vrat is observed from Ashada Krishna Paksha Pratipada to Tritiya – first day of the waning phase of moon in Ashada month to the third day.
