Supreme devotion is the same as supreme knowledge and is easier to practice.
In this Age of Kali (Iron Age or Kali Yuga), there is no
path so easy and pleasing to me (Shiva) as the path of devotion.
In this decadent age, spiritual knowledge and detachment
have become misused and neglected. People who can grasp these profound truths
are rare. The complexities of spiritual knowledge and the rigorous discipline
required for detachment are often beyond the reach of most individuals in this
era, as materialism and moral decline overshadow the quest for higher truths.
However, devotion (bhakti) shines as a beacon of hope in
these turbulent times. Unlike the paths of knowledge (jnana) and renunciation
(vairagya), which require intense discipline and intellectual rigor, devotion
is accessible to everyone. It transcends social, intellectual, and economic
barriers, inviting all who have a sincere heart to partake in its blessings.
Devotion encompasses love, surrender, and unwavering faith
in the divine. It is a heartfelt connection with Shiva that does not demand
scholarly understanding or ascetic practices. Through simple acts of love and
service, chanting, and remembering the divine, one can attain the same, if not
greater, spiritual heights that are promised by the paths of knowledge and
detachment.
In this age, where the distractions of the world and the pulls of the senses are at their peak, devotion offers a sanctuary. It provides a direct and joyous route to divine communion, making the lofty goals of spiritual enlightenment and inner peace attainable. Thus, for those seeking liberation and divine grace, the path of devotion remains the most accessible, effective, and pleasing to Shiva.
