Raghavendra Swamy And Music

Apart from learning Vedic texts and grammar, Sri Raghavendra Swamy was also naturally drawn to the world of music from childhood since it was in the gene of his family. Sri Raghavendra Swamy is known to have composed several songs and his own lilting composition ‘Indu Enage Govinda’ and ‘Maruta Ninnaya Mahime’ in Kannada are among the largest collections of songs which are popular even today. The forefathers of Guru Raghavendra Swamy were great musicians and learned Sanskrit scholars under the patronage of the King Mayuravarma of Kadamba dynasty. His forefathers migrated to the Vijayanagar empire and one of the key scholars in the Vijayanagar Kingdom under the great Krishnadevaraya was Sri Krishna Bhatta. It is said that Sri Krishna Bhatta, an ancestor of Sri Raghavendra Swamy, taught emperor Krishnadevaraya the playing the veena. After the fall of the Vijayanagar empire, the grandson of Thimmanna Bhatta, who was the father of Sri Raghavendra Swamy, shifted their base to Kumbakon

Vandiperiyar Sree Dharmasastha Temple – Miracle Temple – Karkidaka Vavu Bali

Vandiperiyar Sree Dharmasastha temple is located on the Vandiperiyar - Thengakal Road in Idukki district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Ayyappa or Dharma Shasta and is on the banks of Periyar River. Anapetty Sree Krishna Swamy Temple – Ashtami Rohini

Anapetty Sree Krishna Swamy temple is located at Anapetty Tholicode in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna. The annual Gokulashtami or Sri Krishna Janmashtami jayanti festival is held with various pujas and rituals. Ashtami Rohini ghoshayathra, feast, young children as baby Krishnas, children and boys dressed as Radha and Krishna, uriyadi and other festivities are part of the important Krishna temple festival observed in Chingamasam (August – September). Story Of King Amshumat

King Amshumat was the son of Asamanja and grandson of King Sagara and his story is found in the Bala Kanda of Ramayana. Once, King Sagara decided to perform a great horse sacrifice. Amshumat, who was the greatest archer of his time, tended to the horse. In horse sacrifice, a horse is left free to roam around. Kings who allow the horse unimpeded access agree to pay tribute to the king who owns the horse and who is undertaking the horse sacrifice. Those unwilling to do so, seize the house and a battle ensues. Amshumat followed the horse and defeated all the kings who captured the horse. Amshumat returned successfully with the horse but on the night of the great sacrifice, Indra, the king of Devas or demigods, took the form of a female demon and stole the horse. Poonithura Kottaram Sri Krishna temple is located at Petta on Poonithura Kottaram Road at Maradu in Kochi, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Sri Krishna Bhagavan. Panauti Brahmayani Temple – Nepal – Festival

Panauti Brahmayani temple is located at Panauti in Nepal. The shrine lies on the banks of Punyamata River within the Tribeni Ghats – confluence of three rivers. What Language Did Raghavendra Swamy Speak?

Guru Raghavendra Swamy comes in the lineage of Sri Madhwacharya, the chief proponent of Dvaita philosophy. He spoke Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil. He was the 16th pontiff of the Purvadimutt established by Sri Madhvacharya – the only one outside the coastal belt of Karnataka.
