Four Adi Shakti Peethas

There are four Adi Shakti Peethas in the world as per Kalika Purana. This is further affirmed in the commentary and text of Brihat Samhita. The temples are located in the eastern part of India and four important body parts of Goddess Sati fell in these spots.

The first of the Adi Shakti Peethas is the Vimla Temple in Odisha where the feet of Goddess Sati fell.

The second temple is the Tara Tarini Temple in Berhampur in Odisha where the breasts of Goddess Sati fell.

The third temple is the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, Assam where yoni or Sati fell.

The fourth and the final Adi Shakti Peetha is the Kalighat Temple in Bengal, where the right toe of Goddess Sati fell.

The belief is that Goddess Shakti appeared on this four spots in the beginning.
