Modhera Sun Temple History

The History of the Sun Temple at Modhera in Gujarat begins in 1025 AD. The temple was built during 1025 – 1026 AD by ‎King Bhimdev of the Solanki Dynasty. The area where the sun temple is located is mentioned in the Puranas and the place was then known as Dharmaranya. It is believed that Bhagavan Sri Ram performed penance here on the advice of Sage Vasishta to get rid of the sin of killing Ravana.

Mahmud of Ghazni, the barbarian, plundered and destroyed Somnath Shiv Mandir and numerous other Hindu temples in the region in 1025 AD. The attack weakened the Solanki Dynasty. It lost its power and glory. The Solankis, the merchants and the Hindus of the region decided to win back their glory and self respect by raising beautiful Hindu temples.

Solanki’s belong to the Sun Dynasty and therefore they decided to build a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Surya, their family deity.

The intricately carved temple, the finely carved pillars with sculptures of Adityas and the magnificently sculp…

Sri Krishna Teachings from Srimad Bhagavad Purana

These are some of the important teachings of Bhagavan Sri Krishna from the Srimad Bhagavad Purana:

Everyone should do his duty without any selfish desires whatsoever. This purifies the mind. And the purified mind is able to observe life without being involved one way or the other.
Even as happiness is uncertain and unworthy of our attention here, so happiness in heaven, too, is illusory. As long as the jiva is clothed with a body, and as long as the delusion of diversity lasts, the cycle of birth and death will continue.
When the disciple who is fully awake and alert obtains the purified knowledge from the guru, he will realize that the diverse appearance is unreal and that oneness is the truth.

For one who regularly attends teachings of Krishna and renders service like the pure devotee, all that is troublesome to the heart is almost completely destroyed. (1.2.18)
As soon as irrevocable loving service is established in the heart, the effects of nature’s modes of passion and ignorance, such…
