Significance of Sri Krishna Jayanti

Sri Krishna Jayanti or Sri Krishna Janmashtami is the birthday of Lord Krishna. It is also referred as Gokulashtami or Krishnaashtami or Sri Jayanti. Like the numerous names of the festival, Sri Krishna Jayanti is celebrated by different Hindu sects on two different days . The true significance of Sri Krishna is that he is relevant in the present and even more relevant for the future. A twenty-four hour fast is observed on Sri Krishna Jayanti and this is broken at midnight . The most important mantra recited on the day is ‘ Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya.’ How to celebrate or perform rituals on Sri Krishna Jayanti can be found here . Temples and Hindu spiritual organizations conduct special bhjans and kirtan sessions. Processions with children dressed as Sri Krishna, Radha and Gopis are held on the occasion. Stories of Krishna are enacted on the day. In a twenty-four hour time span, we remember Sri Krishna superficially and quite often forget his true teachings.

Jagadguru Swami Satyananda Saraswati Jayanti

Jagadguru Swami Satyananda Saraswati Jayanti is observed in Kanni Masam as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in Kerala. The day is of great importance at Chenkottukonam  near Trivandrum. Jagadguru Swami Satyananda Saraswati (1935 to 2006) was a great teacher who helped thousands of people in the path of self realization. In 2024, the birth anniversary of Jagadguru Swami Satyananda Saraswati is on September 26. As per Gregorian calendar, his birthday is on September 22, 1934. Jagadguru Swami Satyananda Saraswati performed numerous activities during his lifetime to strengthen the Hindu society in Kerala. He propagated the true teachings of Hinduism and eliminated misinterpretations. Jagadguru Swami Satyananda Saraswati Jayanti is observed on Punartham Nakshatra in Kanni Masam as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in Kerala.

Maa Vindhyavasini – About Vindhyavasini Devi

Goddess Vindhyavasini is a manifestation of Mother Goddess Shakti. She is Mother Goddess Durga who made her abode in the Vindhyanchal Mountains . She is also referred to as Yoga Maya,  Ashtabhuja Devi   and Kaushiki Devi. There are numerous references regarding the manifestation of Goddess Vindhyavasini. As per Vindhyanchal Mahima, this is the original home of Mother Goddess Adi Shakti. She as  Yoga Maya  appears in all animate and inanimate. Charanamrit – Holy water offered in Hindu Temples To Devotees

Charanamrit is the holy water offered in Hindu temples to devotees. Charanamrit is the water that is used to wash the feet and body of the deity installed in the temple. The water that flows out from the murti is collected and offered to devotees. Some people believe that the water thus collected is energized as it passes through the murti. The water that is collected in Vishnu temples contains Tulsi or basil leaves and this adds to the medicinal properties. Similarly the water that is collected after bathing Shivling contains bilva leaf properties. In most temples, charanamrit is collected in copper or bronze vessels and this adds to the medicinal properties.
