Vemana – Life Story – Basic Teachings

Saint-poet Vemana, or Vemanna, enriched Telugu literature with his poems which are loaded with morals, aphorisms, maxims, dicta, satires, adages and precepts expressed in simple, chaste, and crisp language embellished with similes and metaphors. Namkulam Sastha Temple Avinissery – Karippukavu Bhagavathi Temple

Namkulam Sastha Temple is located Avinissery on the Poochinnipadam – Ollur road in Thrissur district, Kerala. There are three temples in the compound – Karippukavu Bhagavathi, Namkulam Sastha and Avinissery Vishnu. Pooja is only offered to Avinissery Vishnu. Naivedyam is offered to Bhagavathi and Sastha. There is a saying that property is of Bhagavathi but it is enjoyed by Vishnu and the fame rests on Namkulam Sastha. (Swathu Bhagavathikku, Anubhavam Vishnuvinu and Prashasti for Sastha). Namkulam Sastha takes part in the Arattupuzha Pooram. Vishnu faces west. Bhagavathi and Sastha face east. The main festival in the temple is observed on the Thrikarthika day in Vrischikam month. Irattakudam Pongala is held on the Thrikarthika day in the temple.

Karingachira Bhagavati temple is located at Puthenchira near Mala on the Mala – Kodungallur road in Thrissur district, Kerala. Thirunelli Temple, dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu, in Wayanad in Kerala is famous for Bali Tharpanam (Shradham and Pinda Dhanam). Bali Tharpanam is performed every day at Thirunelli Temple. The person wishing to perform the Bali Tharpanam along with evening ritual should reach the temple on the previous day itself. Kannattu Kavukal In Kerala

Kannattu Kavukal are the worship places of Eruvans who are a clan that is part Maniyani community in Kerala. Maniyani community is the Yadava community of Kerala and lives mostly in northern districts of Kerala. Kannangattu Bhagavathi is the tutelary deity of Maniyanis. The sacred groves or kavukal are the abode of Kannangattu bhagavathi and other deities associated with the Goddess. It is believed that the first abode of Kannangattu Bhagavathi is Vayathur. Some of the prominent Kannattu Kavukal in Kerala are located in Kotti, Karalikkara, Kokkanisseri, Fadanad, Kakkol, Kuttur, Peringam Kizhake Alakkad, Alappadamba, Ramanthali, Vellora etc. Some of these sacred groves are spread across more than an acre. The annual festivals in these temples are very famous.  People do not usually venture into Kannattu Kavukal.
