Erattingal Pakkanar Temple At Thritala in Palakkad – Kerala

Erattingal Pakkanar temple is located at Paraya colony (Kumbidi Thiruvinu) at Thritala village in Palakkad district, Kerala. The temple belonged to Pakkanar who was one among the Parayipetta Panthirukulam. Erattingal is the family name of Pakkanar. Even today the puja in the temple is performed by an elder member of the family.

The main deity worshipped in the temple is Goddess Bhagavathi who was brought here by Pakkanar (Avachichu Kondu Varika). Other deities brought here by Pakkanar include Dandan, Karingkutti and 82,000 other gods. There is also a separate pratishta of Pakkanar.

Legend has it that Pakkanar had got flowers from Mangalamkunnu and it had fallen on the banks of the Bharathapuzha River and he got the Seva Murti in the temple from here.

The murtis worshipped in the temple are made of stone, bronze and wood. The deities face east.

Attaprianl in the temple is held on the first day of Vrischikam month.

Rituals like Teekutti, Karinkutti etc are held in the temple. A person ties banana tree around his body and lamp is lit on the banana tree. This ritual is known as Teekutti. Three lamps are lit on the head of a person and this ritual is known as Karinkutti.

Predictions and orders are made by the person performing Teekutti and Karinkutti.
