Sama Upakarma 2016 date

Sama Upakarma, or Sama Veda Upa Karma, is the sacred thread changing ceremony observed by the Brahmins who follow the Sama Veda. In 2017, date of Sama Upakarma is August 24. The Upakarma prayogam or method employed by Sama Vedi Brahmins is different from Upakarma of Rig and Yajur Vedis. The sacred thread worn by Sama Vedi Brahmins known as ‘Yagnopavitam’ is changed on this day.
The ritual is also known by the name of Upanayanam or Upanayana and Avani Avittam. The sacred thread Yagnopavitam is known as Poonol in Malayalam, Jandhyamu in Telugu and Janivaara in Kannada.
The Upakarma ritual is usually performed by a group in a temple or by the side of a river or sacred pond (Tirth). Today, people also perform the ritual at home.

This Durga Puja Priests Will Explain the meaning of Mantras and Shlokas while Performing Poojas

During Durga Puja 2008 in Kolkata, SarvaBharatiyaPrachyaBidyaAcademy is planning to help people understand the meaning of mantras and shlokas that are recited while performing pujas. To achieve this, the academy is organizing workshops in Kolkata in which priests and common people will be taught meaning of the verses and the reason why it is recited. All this because there is a genuine concern among people that the spirituality part is lost in the Durga Puja festivities. The workshop is a major hit with the general public and women in large numbers are attending the classes. The workshop is being conducted at the premises of the Shovabazar Rajbari Natmandir. reports “Somewhere amidst all the festivities, the spirituality has disappeared from Durga Puja. NDTV Imagine’s Ramayan in VCD and DVD

The hugely popular Ramayan serial being telecast on NDTV Imagine television channel in India will be soon released in VCD and DVD packs. The home video of NDTV Imagine’s Ramayan will hit the market before Diwali. The TV channel will release the mythological series in three- to four-volume VCD packs.
