Ashtamurti – The concept of Ashtamurthy in Hindu Tradition

Ashtamurti – Eight murtis (form) worshipped together – is a unique concept in Hindu Tradition and is popular in South India. The Ashtamurtis include the Panchabhoota, Surya, Chandra and the Brahmin or person conducting puja. Thus, Ashtamurtis are Earth, water, fire, air, space, Sun god, Moon god and the priest conducting the puja. In some pujas and rituals, gods from Hindu pantheon take the position of an element. For example, the Rudra form of Shiva represents Agni or fire.

Angarak Ganesh Chaturthi in March 2011 - Angaraki Ganesh Chaturthi

The fourth day falling during the waxing phase of moon, or Shukla Paksha, is observed as Vinayak Chaturthi or Ganesh Chaturti by Lord Ganesha devotees. In March 2011, there is an Angarak Vinayak Chaturthi on March 8. A Ganesh Chaturthi becomes Angarak Ganesh Chaturthi when it falls on Tuesday. Angaraki, or Angaraka, means fire and the name because Tuesday or Mangalwar is governed by Hindu God Mangal. Ganesh is worshipped on the  Angaraki Ganesh Chaturthi  to remove any trouble created by Mangal Grah on one’s horoscope. There is also a Anagaraki Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat on March 22, 2011.

Simple Teachings and Quotes of Swami Sivananda

Moksha or emancipation is not new acquisition. It is the realisation of what eternally is. Release is the eternal nature of Atman or the Self. The Atman is the Light of the universe. Live in it. It is, and therefore, all are.  It shines, and therefore, everything shines. It is free, and therefore, all strive for freedom. Know this source of freedom, the root of bliss, and be free. A garland of rose flowers put around your neck or a dirty shoe hurled at your head should both mean the same to a Sanyasi. Care not for the little perishable things. Care of the everlasting Reality only. Swami Sivananda
