Where should Murtis (idols) of Hindu God placed in a Puja Room in the home?

The murtis (idols) or paintings of Hindu gods like Ganesha, Vishnu, Krishna , Lakshmi, Ayyappa, Saraswati, Shiva, Muruga should face west so that we face east while worshipping. The murtis should not be placed in bedrooms. The images of Gods also should not directly face the main door. Murtis of Hindu Gods should not be kept in the puja area facing each other. Broken idols should not be used for worship. The Puja area or prayer room should be in the northeast or east of the house.
