Darsapaurnamasa In Hinduism

Darsapaurnamasa is a ritual that has to be performed once in a lunar month. In Sanskrit, the term darsha and purnamasa refers to the new and the full moon days, respectively. Hence the name itself suggests this ritual consists of two parts, which are to be performed on the new and the full moon days. The first part of the ritual commences on the forenoon of the full moon day and ends on the forenoon of the successive day. Similarly, the second part of the ritual commences on the forenoon of the new moon day and ends on the forenoon of the successive day. Darshapaurnamasya is generally considered a nityakarma, because pratyavaya (occurrence of sin) is mentioned in the event of non-performance of this, as in the case of sandhyavandanam. But by a suitable change in the sankalpa and the substances used for oblations, darsapaurnamasya may also be performed as a kamyakarma to yield the desired result. The numbers of priests required for performing this karma are four.

The story tell us that in trying to trace the source of the fragrance that assailed his nostrils he discovered the maiden who was indeed the cause of it. Another story in the Mahabharata tells us how a boon was granted to Matsyagandha, the daughter of Girika and Vasu. The maiden had been cursed and became a fish in the waters of the Yamuna River, until one day she was accosted by Parashara Rishi from who she sought the boon of fragrance. Thereupon Parashara Rishi impregnated her with fragrance through a physical union with her and she became known as Gandhavati (the sweet smelling maiden) ever after. She came to be otherwise known as Yojanagandha for it is said that people could smell her approach over a distance of one yojana.

Sphuta In Hindu Religion – Calculation Of Movement Of Planets

In Hindu religion, Sphuta is the longitude of a moving heavenly body, measured from the fixed point marked by Revati Nakshatra (Zeta Piscium). In the ecliptic system, the position of a body is given by sphuta. If it is found that the number of civil days, called ahargana, had elapsed from the commencement of an epoch up to any point of time, then the mean longitude of any planet can be obtained by dividing the elapsed days by the time period of the planet. The quotient thus obtained will denote the number of complete revolutions the planet would have performed, and the remainder, expressed in degrees, yields the mean longitude. Surya Siddhanta introduces the cyclic time of mahayuga, a period of 4,320,000 years, to calculate ahargana, and uses it for finding the mean motion of the planets also. Once the means positions are known, the true position can be obtained from the mean position by making some corrections to them. The details of such calculations are given in almost all the

They are the twelve zodiac signs, i.e., rashis. The same belt also divided into 27 parts, constituting the 27 Indian constellations known as nakshatras. In order to start counting these rashis and nakshatras, there must be some specified reference point. There are two methods to fix such a starting  point, and the assignments of numbers (and names) to these rashis/nakshatras follow two different systems, known as Nirayana system and sayana system. In Nirayana system, the starting point is fixed in space. It is an important star knownas “Zeta Pisuim” in Revati Nakshatra. It is customary to proceed towards the east from this star along the ecliptic, and mark a point after every 13 degrees 20 minutes of arc. Sphatika In Hinduism

Sphatika in Hinduism is a solid in which all atoms and molecules are arranged in an orderly pattern. These solids have their characteristic regular shapes. Every sphatika is made up of regularly shaped, small units known as the unit cell of that sphatika. Multiplication of such unit cells in space produces a three-dimensional sphatika. Metals are crystalline in nature. The process of formation of a crystal (sphatika) from non-living matter is called crystallization (sphatikikarana). When the vapors of such materials are allowed to cool, the atoms come closer and join each other in some regular and periodic manner, constituting the crystal. The Cause Of Bondage And Freedom – Hinduism

According to the Ashtavakra Samhita, it is the mind that is responsible for one’s sense of freedom or bondage: ‘He who considers himself free is free indeed, and he who considers himself bound remains bound.’ The popular saying “As one thinks, so one becomes” is true indeed.’ We have an explanation in Sri Ramakrishna’s words: The mind is everything. A man has his wife on one side and his daughter on the other. He shows his affection to them in different ways. But his mind is one and the same. Bondage is of the mind, and freedom is also of the mind. A man is free if he constantly thinks, ‘I am a free soul. How can I be bound, whether I live in the world or in the forest? I am a child of God, the King of Kings. Who can bind me?’ … by repeating with grit and determination, ‘I am not bound, I am free’, one really becomes so—one really becomes free.
