Anantha Vratam

Anantha Vratam, also known as Ananta Chaturdasi or Anandapadmanabha Vrat, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. In 2017, the date of Ananta Vratam is September 5. It is believed that Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Anandapadmanabha sleeping on the serpent Ananta – the famous Ananta Shayana form. The main ritual on the day is the tying of a sacred thread known as Ananta Daram.
The observance of Ananta Vrata is believed to rid one from all sorrows. Escape from sorrow is not possible by merely performing rituals. But by realizing what Ananta Shayana symbol represents. Meditating on the symbolism represented in Sri Narayana in yoga-nidra on a great serpent bed (Ananta). It is for each person to realize the symbolism. Rituals are just an initial step in the long journey of self realization.
You can find more details about how to observe the Anantha Vratam in this post.

Thoughts – Don’t waste your energy in worthless scriptural discussions and arguments –Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

To drink pure water from a shallow pond one should gently take the water from the surface without disturbing the pond in the least. If it is disturbed, the sediments rise up and make the whole water muddy. If you desire to be pure, have firm faith, and slowly go on with your devotional practices, without wasting your energy in useless scriptural discussions and arguments. Your little brain will otherwise be muddled. Many are the men who study scriptures and talk of religion, but very few are those who wish to see God or take pains to approach Him.Ramakrishna Paramahamsa(Source:Sayings of Sri Ramakrishna Page 157 – published by Sri Ramakrishna Math)
