Shiva is worshipped in the Kumbeshwar Shivling in many temples in India and Nepal. Here is the story of Kumbeshwar form of Shiva. Kumbeshwar Shivling is associated with fertility, good harvest, water, and abundance. Chandra, the moon god, once asked Brihaspati, the guru of devas, to perform the rajasuyajna. It required the conquest of the entire universe. Chandra conquered the universe and the collected wealth was brought to Mount Meru, the spot of rajasuya yajna. The sacrifice was completed successfully. Chandra’s success blinded him both morally and physically. Chandra happened to see Tara, the wife of Brihaspati, and he was enamored by her beauty. Blinded by lust, Chandra carried her off and impregnated her against her will. Brihaspati did not get help from other Devas to avenge this insult as they feared the physical strength of Chandra.
