Food Offering To Navagraha Guru Or Brihaspati – Jupiter God In Hinduism

Guru or Brihaspati, the Jupiter God in Hinduism, is one of the Navagrahas – the nine celestial bodies. The navagrahas are propitiated for overcoming bad luck in life and to solve horoscope related problems. Food offering or bhog or naivedya to Brihaspati is part of the pujas and rituals. The details regarding flowers, food offerings, herbs, etc to Guru or Jupiter are found in the Matsya Purana.

The main food offering to Brihaspati is curd rice. Yellow color sweet offerings are another important offering.

The color associated with Guru Navagraha is yellow and golden color, the flowers offered are jasmine, water lily and yellow color flowers and the main grain offering is black chick pea.

Lemon rice, dishes prepared from small black chana, yellow colored food items, yellow color sweets, jaggery, chana dal and yellow fruits are the other important offerings.
