Lata Mangeshkar to Sing Sanskrit Keertans of Tallapaka Annamacharya

Seven Sanskrit Keertans of saint poet, Tallapaka Annamacharya, will be sung by Lata Maganeshkar and made available to the general public. This initiative by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is to popularize the keertans (bhajans) of Tallapaka Annamacharya around the world. The songs of Annamacharya extol the glory of Lord Venkateswara. The songs Lata Mangeshkar would be singing are
Evam darshayasi
Tavamam drastam Tvameva sharanam Dasavidhacharanam
Prudul hema kaupina dharaha Majahihi dsthamanayitiMadrushanam.The music for these songs will be given by Sabarigirish, a music lecturer in Sri Venkateswara Music and DanceCollege and will be compiled by Dr Vibhishana Sharma, the station manager of community radio project of TTD.Times of India reportsInterestingly, though Lata was the ‘aasthana gayani', of TTD during 1960s, she did not sing any songs of Annamayya. The concept of evil, as well as the approach to dealing with evil is different in eastern and western religious traditions and culture. The East believes that it is God's job to deal with evil. The individual has nothing to do with it; he can only pray. It is the gods who will take action to oust evil from our midst.In Hinduism, it is Goddess Durga who destroys the evil Mahishasura with one 'Hmmkar'. There are also a number of other Hindu deities including Shiva, Narasimha in the Vaishnava tradition, Hanuman, Kali, Bhairava, and Pratyengeera who have, from time to time, come to the rescue by overpowering evil forces.
