Soundarya Lakshmi – Hindu Goddess Soundaryalakshmi

In Hinduism, Soundarya Lakshmi is a form of Goddess Lakshmi. In this form Lakshmi, is the Goddess of beauty. Puranas indicate that Soundarya Lakshmi had turned an average looking Rati, Brahma’s daughter, to the most beautiful woman in the three worlds. It is believed that Rati and her husband, Manmatha, god of love, worships Soundarya Lakshmi. It is said that the Solah Shringar, the sixteen beauty methods used by a Hindu bride, was first given to Rati by Soundarya Lakshmi. There are no major independent shrines dedicated to Goddess Soundarya Lakshmi. She is also rarely counted among the Ashta Lakshmis.

Lesser Known Incarnations of Lord Vishnu

Dasha Avatar, the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, is very well known. It is believed that when Adharma spreads, Lord Vishnu incarnates to dispel the evil and ego-inflated beings and to uphold Dharma. Apart the popular ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, there are numerous other incarnations of Vishnu that are found in the Puranas and other holy scriptures associated with Hinduism.
Some of the popular incarnations that are not included in the Dasha Avatar are:
Mohini – the beautiful female who stole the Amrita from the demons and gave it to Devas after the Samudra Manthan (Churning of Ocean).
Hayagriva – the horse-headed incarnation that rescued the Vedas from the demons.
Balrama – Lord Balrama, the elder brother of Sri Krishna, is counted as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In South India, he is one among the Dasha Avatar.
Dhanvantari – the physician of the Gods is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
