Simha Varahi: Fire, Fierceness and the Boar-Faced Goddess on a Lion Simha Varahi is a rare and lesser-known form of Goddess Varahi, one of the Sapta Matrikas (seven divine mothers) who emerged as the shakti, or feminine energy, of Varaha, the boar incarnation of Bhagavan Vishnu. While Varahi is most commonly depicted riding a buffalo or a serpent, in this special form she is seated upon a lion, which is how she comes to be known as Simha Varahi, meaning "boar-faced goddess of the lion." She is closely associated with Chandi, the fierce and radiant form of Devi described in sacred texts as blazing with the splendour of a thousand suns while seated upon her lion vehicle.
