Thalavil Perumpadavu Paradevatha Veerabhadra Swami Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Thalavil Perumpadavu Paradevatha Veerabhadra Swamy temple is located at Perumpadavu near Thalavil and Mathamangalam in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Paravadevatha and Veerabhadra Swamy and other popular deities worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for a couple of days in March.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Thalavil Perumpadavu Paradevatha Veerabhadra Swami temple are Gulikan theyyam, Veerabhadran or Vairajathan theyyam, Kurathi theyyam and Veeran theyyam.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil (square sanctum sanctorum) for the main deity. The walls and roof of the shrine are decorated with traditional motifs. There are other smaller sanctums for other deities. Some deities are worshipped atop small square platforms and under trees. The temple performs special pujas and rituals on Sankranti day.
