Mavilayi Sree Kalyadan Thekeveedu Kalari Sthanam Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Mavilayi Sree Kalyadan Thekeveedu Kalari Sthanam temple is located at Mavilayi in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhairavan, Bhagavathy and Vishnumoorthi. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Dhanu Masam – Dhanu 24 and Dhanu 25 (January 8 and January 9).

The temple has a square sanctum sanctorum (chathura sreekovil) for the main deity. The other deities are worshipped in small sanctums, atop uncovered small raised platforms and under trees. Sankranti (which falls in the middle of English month) in every month as per Malayalam calendar is of great importance here.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Mavilayi Sree Kalyadan Theke Veedu Kalari Sthanam temple are Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Karuvaal theyyam, Uchitta theyyam, Sasthappan theyyam, Porkali Bhagavathy theyyam, Angakkaran theyyam, Bhairavan theyyam and Thekkan Gulikan theyyam.
