Mykeel Sri Karimkuttysasthan Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Mykeel Sri Karimkuttysasthan temple, also known as Mykeel Karimkuttichathan temple, is located Pattuvam Taliparamba Road at Mykeel near Pulimparamba in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Karim Kutty Sasthappan or Karim Kuttichathan. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for twos at the shrine from last day of Malayalam Makara Masam to first day of Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Makaram 29 to Kumbham 1 (February 12 and Feb 13).


The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Mykeel Sri Karimkuttyshasthan temple are Pulam Chamundi, Karimkuttysasthan, Kudiveeran Daivam, Kandanar Kelan Daivam, Gulikan theyyam, Pottan theyyam and Vayanattu Kulavan theyyam.

The temple has square sanctum sanctorum – chathura sreekovil (s) for main deities. Other deities popularly worshipped in Kavu and temples in Kannur region are also worshipped in the temple in small sreekovils, under trees and on square platforms. Sankranti and Vishu are important days in the temple.
