Chembilottu Bhootham Theyyam is a rare theyyam performed during the annual Kaliyattam – theyyam thira festival in Kasaragod and Kannur region of Kerala. As per information Chembilot Bhagavathy is a manifestation of Shiva Bhoothagana who appeared along with Goddess Kali in this region. The story of Chembilottu Bhootham is that of him helping people and at the same time causing disturbance in the region through his antics. He is given a space in the Chembilottu temple and a theyyam is performed so that he does not harass people.
Chembilottu Bhootham theyyam appears in a benign form and he also evokes some laughter with his antics like climbing on roof etc
Chembilottu Bhootham theyyam is performed at the Chandera Chembilot Bhagavathy temple in Kasaragod district and at Taliparamaba Naduvil Ayyappa – Vanadurga Temple.
