Kodakara Shashti is the famous annual festival held at Kunnathrikkovil Sree Subramanya Swamy temple at Kodakara in Thrissur district, Kerala. The festival is held on the Shukla Paksha Sashti falling in Vrischika Masam (November – December). Kodakara Shashti 2025 date is November 26.
The annual festival is famous for a colorful procession of various types of Kavadi.
Traditional temple music, melam and temple art forms are part of this annual colorful festival. Effigies of characters from Hindu epics and puranas are another highlight of the festival.
Devotees pierce vel of various sizes through their mouths and tongue on the occasion.
Another highlight of the festival is the numerous temporary shops that sell all kinds of fancy and traditional items.
Kunnathrikkovil Sree Subramanya Swamy temple is small but ancient shrine. The shrine is located atop a small hill and is approached by flight of steps. The shrine has a square sanctum sanctorum.
The sashti viratham days in all Malayalam masam are of great significance in the temple. Thaipooyam in Makaram month is another important festival in the temple.
