Kollam Anandavalleswaram Mahadevar Temple – Festival

Kollam Anandavalleswaram Mahadevar temple is located at Anandavalleeshwaram in Kollam town, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva – Mahadeva and Goddess Anandavalli. The 10-day annual festival in the temple is held in Malayalam Meena Masam (March – April).

The Shivling worshipped in the temple was consecrated by Parashurama. The temple is also one among the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala. The shrine faces west

The entire Sreekovil is made using teakwood.  There is a nalambalam, namaskara mandapam, kodimaram, shrines of upa devatas and a temple pond.

The temple also has murtis of Sri Krishna, Bhagavan Vishnu along with Bhudevi and Goddess Lakshmi in the main sanctum. The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Hanuman, Subrahmanya, and Naga Devathas. The Sri Krishna murti worshipped in the temple is that of Gosalakrishna.

The ten-day annual festival begins with Kodiyettam. The important rituals that are part of the festivities include pallivetta, ezhunnallathu, kazhcha sribali, kettukazhcha and unique Shaiva and Shakti pujas and rituals. The festival culminates with Arattu procession. Fireworks, melam and traditional performing art forms of Kerala temples are part of the annual festival.

Shivratri is another important festival in the temple.
