Thiruvannur Sree Mahadeva temple, also known as Thiruvannur Shiva temple, is located at Thiruvannur in Kozhikode district, Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple is Shiva. Mahashivratri and Thiruvathira in Dhanu masam are the two important festivals here.
The temple has a unique
sreekovil which is three-fourth square shape and the back portion is circular or
like that of than elephant.
The sankalpam of Shiva in the temple
is that of Kirathamoorthy and it faces west. The murti is believed to have been
consecrated by Parashurama. There is also a west facing shrine of Bhagavan Sri Krishna
in the temple complex. Ganapathi murti worshipped inside the nalambalam faces
north and this is a rarity.
The upa devatas worshipped in
the temple are Dharma Sastha, Parashurama, Nagaraja and Nagayakshi, Kshetrapalan and yakshi.
The temple belongs to the
Zamorin Royal family, now under administration of the family welfare society.
Main offering is Otta for fulfillment of desires destroying hindrances. It is done in the morning except on the first Friday of Malayalam month when it's done in the evening.
