Venganellur Shiva Temple - Ashtami Festival

Venganellur Shiva temple is located at Venganellur in Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is one among the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala. The Shivling worshipped in the temple is nearly 5 feet including the peedom. The temple is also known as Venganallur Thali temple. The shrine is famous for the Ashtami festival in Vrischika Masam which coincides with the famous Vaikathashtami. 

The Prathishta murti in the temple is known as Thiruveembilappan. The temple has a circular sanctum sanctorum – Vatta Sreekovil. The darshanam of Venganellur Shiva its towards west. Goddess Parvati faces west.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Manikantan, Nandi, Ayyappan and Anthimahakalan.

Thalikulam (a pond near this temple) is believed to have been created by the footstep of Hanuman when he landed here while carrying Mrita sanjeevani in the Ramayana. The vela festival of Venganellur Desam starts from the shrine to Anthimahakalan Temple.

Earlier the temple was managed by Vembola and Vellinezhi Mana.

Shivratri is an important festival in the temple.

The annual pratishta festival in the temple is held in malayalam Edava masam (May - June).

During the Malayalam month of Medam, Chakiarkoothu is conducted regularly for 30 days.
