Chowara Chidambara Swamy temple, also known as Sri Chidambareswara Mahadeva temple, is located at Chowara (on the banks of Periyar River) in Sreemoolanagaram in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple is Shiva. The famous Nataraja form of Shiva is worshipped in the temple. The darshanam of Chowara Chidambara Swamy is towards west.
As per local people, the temple is one among the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala. It is believed that murti in the temple was consecrated by Parashurama avatar of Vishnu.
There are no upa devatas in the temple. The architecture of the temple is typical Kerala style temple architecture. The sreekovil is square in shape.
The Nandi worshipped in the temple is in standing posture not the regular sitting posture.
The important festival observed in the temple is Mahashivratri.
The annual festival in the temple begins on the Thiruvathira nakshatra day in Makaram month with kodiyettam.
